KUALA KUBU BARU, April 1 — PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin says he is ready to stand in the Hulu Selangor by-election should he be chosen by his party leaders.
“I know that my name has come up… but that should be decided by the party leadership,” he told The Malaysian Insider yesterday.
Shamsul Iskandar is one of the five people being considered by PKR for the by-election.
However, he said the most important thing was for the party to successfully defend the seat.
Shamsul, 34, has not wasted any time in going down to the ground to meet with voters.
He was in Kuala Kubu Baru yesterday visiting victims of a fire that gutted a house in Kampung Titiwangsa.
Later, he inspected a plot of state-owned land petitioned by locals for use as a transit house for the needy.
The transit house will provide temporary shelter for the poor.
Kuala Kubu Baru is in the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency which will see a by-election following the death of Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad last Thursday.
PKR won the seat in the last general election.
Yesterday, Pakatan Rakyat decided they will field a PKR candidate for Hulu Selangor after holding a presidential council meeting.
“We agreed to put up a candidate for the by-election. I will discuss with Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and Lim Kit Siang before announcing the candidate’s name,” said PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
